India celebrates its Independence Day on August 15th and this month we celebrate India, a land of rich and beautiful traditions. From it’s clothing and spices to it’s musical and dancing depths, there are endless reasons to be drawn to the beautiful South Asian customs. This month we are celebrating the independent spirit of Indian culture, while sharing it for all of those wanting to fall in love with it anew.

The night will begin with a dance lesson teaching easy to learn moves you can flow with all night followed with beautiful and colorful dance performances by Dholrhythms Dance Company. The festivities will continue with a special live set by Riffat Sultana accompanied by Gurdeep Hira on Dhol. Riffat Sultana channels the musical wisdom of 500 years and eleven generations of master vocalists from India and Pakistan. Daughter of legendary classical singer, the late Maestro Ustad Salamat Ali Khan. Riffat is the first woman from her family’s musical lineage to publicly perform in the west. Her stunning vocals have been recorded for numerous record labels including Ark 21/Universal,Triloka/Mercury, Six Degrees, Hearts of Space, City of Tribes, and XDot25. Her world beat dance band Shabaz can be heard on I-Tunes. Recently she has performed for World Peace Day in Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome alongside Baaba Maal , and returned from her second collaboration with Quincy Jones in Morocco! Riffat performs a wide variety of traditional and modern material from the Indian sub-continent, including, Sufi, Geet, Ghazal, Filmi, Qawwali, and Light Classical. This is her first time performing at Non Stop Bhangra and we are excited to have her on our stage. This is her first time performing at Non Stop Bhangra and we are excited to have her on our stage.

To round out the mix, Non Stop Bhangra’s own DJ’s Jimmy Love, Rav-E, and DJ Mistry will be on the decks sharing a full night of dance floor Bhangra classics alognside live Dhol drumming all night to keep you moving and grooving until 2am. Beyond dance, Non Stop Bhangra caters to sight and sound with visuals by DJ Amar, live painting by Marcus Murray while NSB photographer Odell Hussey captures the experience. The journey does not end there, the summer air will be dancing to the sound of live drums while filling your senses with scrumptions indian snacks and sweets . The aroma of mehndi (henna) will be around to decorate the palms of the beautiful women ready to celebrate.

A night unlike any other & a treat for the eyes and ears, the celebratory spirit of Non Stop Bhangra will make you dance with unbridled enthusiasm and feel like you are at one of the most joyous celebrations in India.
